Is your steam shower leaving you dry?
Joshua GrabbeShare
Introduction
A steam shower not only offers a luxurious experience but also provides health benefits. But what happens when the technology no longer works as it should? A common issue with steam showers is when the touch panel becomes increasingly darker and the controls become hard to read.
This article explains why that happens, how to fix it, and why a repair can be a sustainable and cost-effective solution.
Table of Contents
1. Why does the touch panel keep getting darker?
The cause lies in the LEDs responsible for the backlighting of the touch panel. While LEDs are known for their longevity, they gradually lose their brightness over time—that is, their luminous flux decreases over their operating life.
The degree of degradation is primarily determined by the operating temperature.
2. Why do LEDs age?
The main reason is material degradation within the LED itself, such as defects in the semiconductor crystal and the clouding of the optics—similar to how a plastic window becomes dull over time.
The higher the operating temperature, the more frequently these material changes occur. Cooler ambient temperatures or proper cooling through adequately sized heat sinks and good thermal conduction can significantly reduce LED aging.
3. Repair instead of replace
Buying a new steam shower is not only expensive but often unnecessary. Did you know that a new steam shower with all its features can cost up to €18,000 or more?
Fortunately, there is a more sustainable and affordable solution: repair.
4. A time-consuming but worthwhile process
Repairing your touch panel requires expertise and patience. First, the waterproof housing of the panel must be carefully opened. Then the LEDs are exposed through multiple steps and replaced with new, long-lasting LEDs.
The entire process can take up to 6 hours, followed by a functional test on our testing station.
5. Who are we and what do we do?
We are a team of experienced service technicians who have completed the German qualification as state-certified technicians with a specialization in automation technology.
Our expertise ranges from self-developed laboratory power supplies and lamps to the repair of moving heads and turntables, as well as customizing lighting for living and dining areas.
6. Conclusion: Don't abandon your steam shower
A dark touch panel doesn’t mean the end of your steam shower! Instead of considering an expensive replacement, opt for a professional repair.
